GARDEN
From a wide variety of tomato types to an entire family of kales — along with sweet potatoes, carrots, strawberries, and watermelons — more than 50 types of fruits and vegetables are cultivated throughout the year. All planted and harvested right here, straight from the garden to your plate. The vegetable garden is woven into our agroforest, creating ideal growing conditions — from gentle shade to nutrient-rich soil — fostering biodiversity and allowing plants to thrive naturally. Caring for the gardens is one of our greatest joys; connecting with the earth nurtures mental well-being, reduces stress, and supports physical health through movement, fresh air, and nourishing food. We believe that tending the land, living by its rhythm, and enjoying its harvest is the ultimate luxury experience— and yes, the fruits and vegetables taste divine. At Calipo, we also host courses and workshops on natural cycles, planting techniques, and seasonal harvesting. Come dig in — and join the club.
THE
agroforest
Calipo’s first agroforest was planted in 2023 and is already thriving. The project follows principles of Syntropic Agriculture — a regenerative system that mimics and accelerates natural ecosystems through a holistic approach, enhancing biodiversity, restoring soil health, and reducing dependence on external inputs. It honors the natural cycles, climate, and essence of the region.
Created by Marc Lieber, the project is now being carried forward by Beatriz Cortesi and Frieder Krug, who, together with volunteers, have already planted an entire new forest. These volunteers work the land in exchange for knowledge and shared purpose. The vision is clear: to reforest as much as possible and bring life back to the land. Sustainability as a way of living; reducing carbon footprint, preserving natural resources, protecting local wildlife, are at the center of Calipo’s essence.
THE
Heritage
To truly experience a local culture, one must immerse in its flavors—and nothing captures Alentejo better than its olives and oranges. Some of the region’s olive trees are over 1,000 years old, yielding premium, low-acidity olive oil with a rich, fruity taste. The warm days and cool nights produce sweet, juicy oranges—smaller in size but bursting with vibrant citrus aromas and balanced sweetness. At Calipo, our plantations offer a scenic backdrop for walks, bike rides, and the simple joy of harvesting fresh fruit.
